The growing number of single men and women in India is testimony to the fact that society is slowly and steadily changing and accepting and respecting the different beliefs. More and more men and women are opting for single parenthood. Not only those who are losing faith in the institution of marriage, but also many men and women are daring to break the tradition just because they enjoy being single and being parent at the same time.
Recently when Tushaar Kapoor’s story of being single parent was highlighted, not many eyes were raised with surprise. In his interview with a leading newspaper, he shared his views on being single parent, “I wanted to be a father. I met Dr.Firuza Parikh and she suggested this procedure. I was in a hurry to become a father. I am turning 40 in a few months, so I felt I was in the right stage to become a single parent and I went ahead with what was told to me.
“I wanted to be a single parent, my dream has come true. My son looks exactly like me, so it makes me very happy. I have no words to express how excited or joyous I feel right now.
“It’s just your paternal instinct when you feel mentally that you want to adopt, I wanted to have my own child.”
Single parenthood gives a ray of hope to those who didn’t get married or don’t want to get married, but wish to have their own children. Whether a child is being raised by single or both parents, the most important thing is to provide quality parenthood to the child. We often encounter situations where even both parents together are not able to provide happy and prosperous childhood to their little ones. It is all about being responsible and concerning parent.
A number of factors have fostered the social acceptability of single-parent families. Society is accepting that fact that everyone has right to live life as per their perception and belief system. Many recent researches have shown that children raised in single adoptive parent families show a healthy involvement with friends and family as well as in the activities of their age group. Though, the obstacles are not completely eliminated for single parents. It is still not very easy in our society to survive as single parent. However, when celebrities like Tushaar Kapoortakes a stand to adopt a child or to be single parent, it encourages the society as a whole. It gives a ray of hope to those singles who wish to enjoy the single parenthood while staying happily single forever.
